The region

The village of Vila do Conde is very old, prior to the foundation of Portugal. The current city is an important industrial center, fishing port, bathing and tourist area, and is one of the leading and most popular bathing centers of the country. The municipality has a very relevant historical heritage, a diverse range of museums and multiple places of interest to visit. Also noteworthy is the presence of several restaurants on the main national gastronomic routes. It is a place of passage for many pilgrims towards Santiago de Compostela (religious tourism). In the coastal area, in the north of Vila Chã, the Ornithological Reserve of Mindelo stands out, the 1st protected area created in Portugal and in the south, Castro de S.Paio, a small settlement from the Iron Age located between the cliffs of Labruge beach.
